Top 5 Local Spots in St Petersburg

1. Craft Kafe

6653 Central Avenue

Tucked away in an unassuming Plaza on Central Avenue, lies your new favorite coffee shop.  Walking in, you’ll be greeted by a genuine staff, and feel immediately welcome.

Browse their menu and you'll find countless flavorful, and hearty gluten-free options. Their salads are picked from a fresh lettuce wall they interchange regularly.  Furthermore, Craft Kafe arguably has the best coffee in St. Pete. Try the “Cortado,” an espresso drink with warm milk poured over the top. Whether you’re there for the atmosphere or the phenomenal food and coffee, Craft Kafe will make you happy you didn’t go to Starbucks.

2. The Hyppo

627 Central Avenue

Remember your childhood popsicle stand? This is 10x better than that.  In 2010, Stephen diMare began “The Hyppo,” a humble ice pop joint in St. Augustine.  Almost 6 years later, you can find their locations all over the United States.  Hyppo Popsicles are all natural, non-GMO, and contain no preservatives or artificial colors.  DiMare’s twists on simple flavor with an added splash of creativity have since exploded on the gourmet scene.

Our local downtown St Pete spot is beautifully designed with stained woods and an eye-catching mural by Melodious Monster.

3. Downtown St Pete Mural Tour

719 Central Avenue

(Morean Arts Center)

Once boring alleyways are now bright and creative art showcases. The assorted murals located primarily between Central and 1st Ave N (off the corner of 7th street) are probably the coolest thing you’ve ever seen.   Last September, St Pete celebrated SHINE Mural Festival.  SHINE is a not for profit mural art project comprised of local artists and members of the community.  Donations for SHINE go directly to the St Pete Art Alliance, a 501(c)(3).  You'll also find exceptional work from visiting artists from places like Canada, Miami, and even Rome.    Choose a guided tour, ride a bike or simply walk through... but don't forget your camera.  You’ll soon realize what the Downtown St. Pete art community has to offer.  Visit StPeteMuralTour.com for an interactive map of the famous St Pete murals and learn more about the dynamic Morean Arts Center here.

4. Strands of Sunshine

633 Central Ave

The friendliest little gift shop has a brand spankin’ new location.  Owner Amy Marshall  and her right hand man 'Oscar' opened Strands of Sunshine in the fall of 2012.  Inside you’ll find “Handcrafted goods for Happy People: Locally made arts, gifts, jewelry, homegoods, and letterpress."

Stands of Sunshine offers jewelry making classes and private parties too.  This wonderful shop is just too cute to pass up. You’re bound to find something that will brighten your day.

5. Mandarin Hide

231 Central Ave

This innovative craft cocktail joint is simply a local favorite. It's location is smack dab in the center of everything, yet hidden behind a sleek unmarked door; like a true speak-easy.   Although notoriously packed on the weekends, they offer Live Jazz on Wednesday nights for a much cozier, comfortable atmosphere.

What draws people here is it's prohibition-style design, the suspender clad staff, and the quality bar programme.  Niall, our fantastic British bartender, explained that some nights the bartenders create their own menus, which makes for an enticing and personalized cocktail experience.
